Domain & Hosting

Domain Name

The domain name is like your phone number, much like you use a phone number to dial a specific person's phone, computers communicate by using number, called IP addresses,to contact each other.Element of domain name system (DNS) which indicates the IP address of a computer or a website. All computers sharing a common part of an IP address are in the same domain. If  DNS is represented as a tree, a domain would be a 'limb' that incorporates all 'branches' originating from it.

Your domain name is a way for people to access your website. You can create a website today on your computer, but that’s no good if it’s not accessible by anyone but yourself! Similarly you could register a domain name today, but it doesn’t necessarily mean there will be a visible website when you go to that domain name. Imagine remembering a string of numbers for every website you wanted to visit. I’m sure you can appreciate, it would be a little tedious!

It's important when you are buying a domain name to get a brief overview of the industry you are becoming a part of.You can try some free domain for starting like blogger.com or weebly.com.

Web Hosting

Hosting arrangement in which a web host (often an internet service provider) maintains clients' websites on its computers and provides related services. These services may include leasing of hard disk space, maintenance of hardware and software, provision of backup and security, content integrity, credit card processing, email boxes, and high speed internet connection.

The web-hosting or server portion is much like the space that you rent out to have your business in. It's merely the space itself. It does not include furnishings like shelves for your products, just as the web-hosting account doesn't include a site for you to sell your products. Luckily, in the web-hosting world, it's very easy to furnish the space provided by your host, because you can install many framework applications through the Fantastico icon within your cPanel. Without the hosting services, you won't have a place for your files to reside, so your domain would then become like a disconnected phone number in the phone directory, and your site files would have nowhere to stay.

000webhost.com ($0.00 webhost), is an industry leader in providing top class free web hosting services without advertising! There are no hidden costs, you can try this when you start.

How can connect domain and web hosting

Once you have purchased a Domain Name and selected the right type of hosting for your site, you will need to connect the two.

Your web hosting company will supply you “name servers” or “DNS records”. An example of name servers could look like this:

ns1.Google.com and ns2.Google.com

You will have to login to your Domain Registrar and find the link to “manage” your domain name and once on that screen, look for another link or reference to “change name servers”. They will typically provide two fields (or boxes) to fill in the name server information as provided to you through your web host.

FTP & cPanel

FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol. FTP technology allows you to transfer files between two computers over the Internet. FTP is a simple network protocol and also a term used when referring to the process of copying files when using FTP technology. An FTP account is used to upload and manage files on your web site. You can give different people different levels of access by assigning them to a specific directory. You must create an FTP account for each user to do so.
